Four Culinary You Have To Visit In Ponorogo

In this year Ponorogo regency won in special food festival Eastern Java competition who's held by Department of tourism and culture East Java Surabaya. This competition held every year by East Java Provincial Government. Therefore I will inform you four famous special food (khas) in Ponorogo.   

1. Sate Ayam Pak Tukri (H. Tukri Sobikun) 
Sate is the small pieces of meat (chicken or lamb) roasted on skewer. The different between Sate Ayam Ponorogo and another Sate is the way to cut the meat. Commonly Sate cuted like a cube, but in Ponorogo it is sliced as a fillet which is the testure of meat become tenderer. So the flavor mingle into flesh (dibacem) three times before it served. Sate Ayam Pak Tukri is also famous culinary station you should visit. It placed in Nologaten village. Our President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Joko Widodo, Uya Kuya, Ahmad Dani and many actors/actress from Jakarta already visited this place. The founder of this reastaurant is Mbah Sobikun, the grandfather of H. Tukri. He started this business from Dutch colonial era. While Dutch take over Indonesia, mbah Sobikun drive this business using a cart. Time by time this business growing fast. He can sell 5-10 chicken in a day. By this success he moved to sell sate in the house, then not using cart anymore. He used his small garage. There's a story about this Sate Ayam Pak Tukri restaurant. Once time ago mbah Sobikun invited by President Soekarno to come to Jakarta to cook sate for some agenda. Another story told that one of Soekarno's wife who come from Ponorogo, Her name is Hartini. Mrs. Hartini is one of the loyal customer from sate ayam mbah Sobikun. Mbah Sobikun and his team carried from Lanud Iswahyudi Airport in Madiun using Hercules plane. This is the biggest mbah Sobikun's experience in his live, and that's only because of sate. In year 80th mbah Sobikun passed away, the business continued by his son Pak Tukri. On his hand sate ayam Pak Tukri also growing fast. He opened three branch in Ponorogo and Madiun. The customer come from many cities not only from Ponorogo. The kitchen is quite large with very big equipment. Sate Ayam Pak Tukri has a traditional seasoning. They use the natural ingredients. One reason that make customer loyal to buy sate ayam Pak Tukri is the flavor hasn't change since ancients time. 

2. Pecel Ponorogo
One thing I miss the most from Ponorogo is pecel. Pecel is a salad with peanut sauce. Very famous Pecel is come from Madiun, but Pecel Ponorogo also has very delicious taste. There are many places in Ponorogo selling Sego pecel, but there is one place called Pecel Pojok which become the legend of Pecel in Ponorogo. Pecel Pojok Ponorogo placed in Soekarno-Hatta's street. Many Tv's station already took a shoot in this stall as culinary destination you have to visit. This shop selling Sego Pecel with many kind of side dishes. The price is very cheap. You can eat until satisfied but spending no more than twenty thousands rupiah.
The cooking spices of Pecel made thickly with strong special aroma. It is offered with many vegetables like spinach, long beans, turi's flower, papaya leaves, casava leaves, bean sprouts, basil, and small pieces of cucumber called trancam. The side dishes using rempeyek, tempe, lentho, piya-piya (known as bakwan, heci, and ote-ote). There are special way or method to serve pecel Ponorogo. There is special arrangement how to put rice, vegetables and the spicy. That's what makes pecel Ponorogo special.

3. Dawet Jabung
Dawet Jabung is cendol made from sugar palm flour without dye which result a natural color. The sauce consist of young coconut milk supplemented with palm sugar and a lettle salt. Usually added tape also slice of jackfruit. It served in a small bowl and added with ice cubes. The seller will give us the bowl with the small plate. Another story said if that small plate will never given to the buyer and then the buyer can only take the plate. If the seller give the small palte to the buyer, it means buyer can take seller as a wife. It is a myth, everybody can believe either not. Named dawet Jabung because the origin of these dawet from the village named Jabung, one of the villages in the disctrict Mlarak Ponorogo.

4. Jenang Mirah
Jenang is food made of glotinous rice, palm sugar and coconut milk, without preservatives. Jenang Mirah is the wet food. It just lasting about one week except it puts in the fridge. Called Jenang Mirah because the one who make the food is Mrs. Mirah. Mrs. Mirah set up this business from 1955. She was peddling Jenang home to home, car to car in trains and market to market by foot. This business growing fast because Jenang Mirah has a special taste. The business that pioneered by a woman aged 75 years this, now almost make the entire family and the neighbours make many another special food. Josari village well known as the center of Ponorogo's special food. Josari village got many approbiation from tourist even anyone who come from another village to buy a home product industry. This home made food known by the global community. Jenang Mirah main factory located in Josari village but you can find it in many market in Ponorogo.

There are many traditional food you can find  in Ponorogo as garang asem, utri, penthol corah, keling, rimbil, brangkal, gandos, serabi, rangin, gethuk and many more. These foods has a very special taste. But four I introduce you above is the most popular special food widely known.
